Man facing serious DWI-related charges after fatal accident

Longview police arrested a man and charged him with intoxication manslaughter after a woman died in connection with a head-on collision involving the man and the woman’s vehicles.

According to police, the man was heading one direction on a local road but without warning drifted in to oncoming traffic. The woman, who was coming from the opposite direction of the man, apparently did not have time to avoid the accident after the man swerved. The woman died at the scene of the crash.

Additionally, a passenger in the woman’s car was also severely hurt in the accident and had to be transported to a nearby hospital. The man who caused the accident also was taken to the hospital following the accident, but police reportedly were able to determine that the man was legally drunk at the time of the accident.

In addition to the intoxicated manslaughter charge, the man is also facing another serious charge because the deceased woman’s passenger was also seriously hurt. This man is thus looking at years in jail or prison on account of this accident, and he will likely face other stiff fines and penalties as well.

A DWI and related charges are particularly difficult when there has been a serious car accident that left someone seriously hurt or even dead. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that this man has legal rights with respect to this case, including the right to have the state prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He will likely want to speak to an experienced Longview defense attorney about his rights and legal options.
